Family Portraits for peace
A social justice project
Participants wrote one word somewhere on their body that represented a feeling.
Their word represents how they would feel if Racial, Sexual or Religious Discrimination,
Did not exist.
The participants were then asked to find people that they didn't know that didn't look like themselves
some Participants came with friends or family but most often found others in the art center on open gallery night; People that they didn't know to create their family portrait for peace.
The words that were chosen occurred over and over regardless of race or gender... Words that represent what we all want from our families, our communities and the world.
Most of the participants came in as strangers and left as friends and neighbors.
